#78 – PARADIGMS, DRONES, CYBER, RISK AND MORE – BILL WALKER

BILL WALKERWe live in a world of fast continual change.  Are you able to accept these changes and use them to improve your life?  How about your family’s life?  How about your organization at work?

What is a PARADIGM?  It is a pattern.  Examples include driving to work the same way each day.  Making toast, taking a shower, brushing your teeth and other processes the same over and over again.  There is an excellent video on Paradigms titled, “THE BUSINESS OF PARADIGMS” by Joel Arthur Barker.  I suggest that you obtain a copy and view it several times.  Show it to your family and employees as it will make them challenge all that they do and look for ways to improve on the tasks that they do every day.  Be sure to tell them to discuss their change ideas with you before they actually go forward as this could cause major problems and Risks. Let’s look at a few new paradigms. Continue reading

#71 – HOW A QUALITY PRO LEARNED ABOUT RISK – BILL WALKER

Bill WalkerWOW!  I thought that I knew a lot about RISK MANAGEMENT and boy was I wrong.  I was in a five day BOOT CAMP taught by Greg Hutchins and Ed Perkins.

There are many tools and definitions that must be identified, learned and then used to reduce RISK and CONTROL variation.  Eliminate uncertainty in your entire organization is a MUST DO. Continue reading

#62 – RISK-BASED, QUALITY FIRST! – BILL WALKER

Bill WalkerLet us continue the Salmonella discussion and other stupid things that people do that puts us at RISK.

I recall a news report that said State Patrols are purchasing FORD CROWN VICTORIA’S and having an extra gas tank added.  Only one problem: in rear end collisions the new gas tanks could explode.  And, FORD had the exploding gas tank issue with the FORD PINTO years ago.  So what happened to lessons learned and why do problems repeat themselves?  Continue reading

#61 – SALMONELLA IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM! – BILL WALKER

I recall a sign over the employee’s entrance door for a company that read, “QUALITY STARTS HERE.”  How about the door that upper management enters every day?

The salmonella news we are hearing about and reading about is for the peanut butter salmonella scare that happened in 2008-09.   There was also a chicken salmonella issue this year.  Go to Voice Search on your cell phone and ask about “Salmonella in peanut butter” and Salmonella in “chicken  Salmonella” and you will be surprised about all the food products that have Salmonella and the very small, if any Federal Inspections that happen. #10 – FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION FOR BOEING 787 – BILL WALKER

It appears that the FAA is going to require that 787 First Articles be accomplished again.  My article will help improve this reporting if necessary.

Our customers are requiring more First Articles and even sooner than required in the AS 9102A Standard.  Standard requires every two years if two years has elapsed since the last manufacture of the product.  But there are some OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufactures) that have reduced the two years to one year.  So be careful and be sure that you have read the customers contract, ALL Quality Requirements, sometimes called QNotes and FULLY UNDERSTAND all the contract requirements before you sign and fully commit your organization.
