ISO tackles ISO 9001 (2015) risk with a new tag line:
‘Risk based thinking.’
Not bad! The new ISO 9001 tag line is similar to ours. Q+E CERM tagline is Risk Based Problem Solving and Risk Based Decision Making.
ISO is coming to terms with risk and quality. ISO recognizes that all ISO 9001 stakeholders are NOT ready for risk. Many countries voted down the Committee Draft, while two-thirds or so approved it. Hence, ‘risk based thinking.’
What is ‘risk based thinking?’ According to a recent slide slide from ISO explaining quality risk, ISO explains:
- Risk based thinking is something that quality professional also ready do.
- Risk has always been implicit in ISO 9001.
- Risk is already part of the process approach.
- Risk based thinking incorporates preventive action.
- Risk includes opportunities as well as downside risk.
ISO is slowly starting to get its stakeholder around the new ISO 9001 (2015) standard.
So, why should an organization adopt ‘risk based thinking?’ ISO believes that risk based thinking can:
- Improve customer satisfaction.
- Assure consistency of goods and services.
- Establish a proactive culture of prevention and improvement.
- Establish a risk based culture which successful company’s adopt.
