BSI (British Standards Institution) released last month a new standard on supplier qualification. It’s a must have, must read, and must use standard.
And, most importantly, it’s a PAS – Publicly Available Specification. Most importantly, it’s FREE.
Supplier risk management is becoming it’s own discipline since it is so important. The first step is qualifying suppliers.
PAS STRUCTURE
The PAS makes a distinction between ‘Core’ and ‘Additional’ topics. The Core consists of the critical areas of supplier qualification that should always be covered. They include:
- Organisational profile
- Supplier capabilities and capacities
- Financial information and insurance
- Business governance
- Employment policies
- Health and Safety
- Data protection
- Environmental management
- Quality management
For each core topic the second delineation is between ‘essential’ questions and ‘discretionary’ questions. Additional topics include:
- Business ethics
- Supply chain traceability
- Supply chain security
- Equal opportunities
- Disciplinary practice and abuse
- Business continuity management
