#442 – INTENTIONAL SELF MANAGEMENT – GREG HUTCHINS

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.
Jim Rohn – Author and Entrepreneur

Intentional Self-Management is the fundamental principle behind Working It and is really critical in COVID time. Intentional Self-Management is the art of taking responsibility and the science of taking control of your behavior, health, spirit, career, life, and work. Think about these key Intentional Self-Management questions:

• What are your strengths?

• What are your values?

• Where do you belong?

• How do you work and perform?

• What value can and do you contribute?71

tory: Peter Drucker, the father of management, posed the above questions 15 years ago. They have particular resonance for VUCANs. Many VUCANs are not equipped, ready, or resilient to deal with FOW work disruption. The numbers are tough to fathom.

About 75% of VUCANs are anxious, depressed, and have insomnia. While these are U.K. and U.S. numbers, you can see the same throughout the world.

Your answers to the above questions can be an early indicator of how well you’re adapting to FOW disruption and automation coming to your life and work.

We call this your Intentional Self-Management index. The higher your index, the more you’ll enjoy your work and solve critical problems.

Work Lesson Earned: Hopefully your boss or your company is going to look out for you? Some do. Some don’t. So post-COVID, a critical element of Intentional Self-Management is to start managing your FOW. More VUCANs are entering the do-it-yourself (DIY) world of work and career management. Companies offer little guidance.

VUCAN life and work is all about self-awareness and Intentional Self-Management. We believe these practices are the basis for post-COVID success. What do you think?
