#49 – ISO 31000 & ISO 9001:2015: THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE – ALEX DALI

alex-dali-mba-armWe’re seeing more integration of ISO 31000 and ISO 9001:2015.  What does this mean to both standards as well as the generation direction of ISO standards?   Here is my quick impression giving the current trend:

1.  Companies moving from a compliance and control framework to a performance-oriented, risk management framework supporting decision-making.
_

2.  Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program will refer to the principles, the vocabulary, the framework and the process proposed in ISO 31000, in order to provide a structured approach, a consistent methodology, a common vocabulary for all type of risks which could prevent the organization to achieve its objectives.

3.  Software vendors moving from an exclusive GRC-concept towards tools supporting risk-based decision-making
_

4.  Countries adopting ISO 31000 standard as their national risk management standard (our record today shows 42 countries)
_

5  Countries translating ISO 31000 standard into their national language (our record today shows 23 languages)
_

6.  Local and national governments referring to risk management standards such as the international ISO 31000 standard
_

7.  Sectoral regional and international associations referring to ISO 31000 in white paper and position papers recommended to their members.
_

8. Training and certification courses on the ISO 31000 risk management standard will continue to be proposed, worldwide
_

9.  More workshops, conferences and seminars will mention the international ISO 31000 risk management standard
_

10.  More books, articles and publications will refer to the international ISO 31000 risk management standard
_

11.  More ISO Management Systems Standards will introduce the concept of risk as required during their revision. The biggest impact is expected in 2015 when the two popular ISO standards ISO9001 and ISO 14001 will published their respective revision
_

12.  And finally, given the current trend, maybe the ISO 31000 LinkedIn discussion forum will hit 100,000 members in 3 years

Bio:

Holding a master degree in chemical engineering combined with a master in Risk Management & Business Administration, I have gained in the last 18 years a broad knowledge in Risk Assessment, international programs in property and liability insurance , conflict prevention, disaster preparedness, strategic management and risk management standards.

Presently in charge of the Global Institute for Risk Management Standards labelled G31000 (see bullet #12 above), my aim is to raise awareness about the ISO 31000 Risk Management and associated ISO standards. We are launching a few initiatives on ISO 31000. One of them will be the Third international conference + Masterclasses on ISO 31000 scheduled in New York, USA, on 14-15 July 2014. Maybe we will meet there.
