We are finding that almost every profession is being disrupted. What do we mean? Revolutionary change – not evolutionary or incremental improvement.
The UK Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) recently developed a new framework that may point to the future of quality and other professions.
CQI COMPETENCY FRAMEWORK
The CQI Competency Framework may be one of the most important quality documents in this decade. Why? Because it points to the future of the profession. So, follow the logic in the competency framework:
Why do organizations appreciate us? Four reasons:
- Protecting reputation. Avoiding “potentially catastrophic consequences of getting things wrong.” Think risk management.
- Enhancing reputation. Improving operational effectiveness, efficiencies, and economies while adding value to customers.
- Improving profitability. Reducing operational costs and waste. Think lean.
- Transforming at pace. Driving change through improvements. Think innovation.
How are the above accomplished? Through CQI Competency Framework shown below:
SO, WHAT’S SO SPECIAL?
I like the document for a number of reasons, specifically:
- Context is the overarching concept of the framework. Like ISO 9001:2015, risk management is implemented based on the value it provides the organization and the context in which it competes.
- Governance implies implies Board oversight of quality, which is where it should be.
- Assurance is consistent with the context, governance, risk, and appetite of the organization.
- Governance, Risk, & Compliance (GRC) is implied in the document. It places quality in the forefront of the organization, instead of the margins.
- Improvement is also integral to the core vision and mission of the organization.
