About a dozen years ago, I wrote an article titled: “Where Have the Chief Quality Officer’s Gone?” As I’m researching this post, i’d write about where have the Quality VP’s and Quality Director’s gone? I’m can’t find them.
I belong to a dozen quality, six sigma, and operations communities on LinkedIn. There are a lot of jobs available for quality professionals. Only one problem. Most are low level. I seldom see Quality Director positions. I never see VP of Quality positions. Most professional positions advertised in LinkedIn are at the technical level: supply quality engineer, quality engineer, auditor, etc.
You get the idea. Quality and operations titles are either losing their cachet or the professions are being rebranded into risk or supply management professions.
BTW: I don’t want to pick on quality or operations. I think it’s happening all over. We are seeing new job titles. We are seeing the morphing of job functions and even professions. We are seeing the mashing up of very different jobs. We are seeing job title disruption
Try something: Next time you’re in your favorite LinkedIn community, check out the jobs that are available. I bet most or all will be professional and first level supervision.
