Changing Professions – Mechanical Engineering – Greg Hutchins

Greg Hutchins pixI wrote a blog recently on how the quality profession is disappearing or is morphing to risk management.

Well, mechanical engineering is also morphing.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME.org) is the professional society for mechanical engineers. It’s tag line is now:

“ASME (founded as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers) promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe.”

So, what’s surprising?

Much like Prince who was ‘formerly known as’, ASME has rebranded itself and the mechanical engineering profession into a new profession.

ASME is now global. Forget being the ‘American Society …’, it’s now the global society.

ASME is now interdisciplinary and now integrates a number of sciences and even the arts.

Bottom Line: ASME has seen the future and has adapted.
