#2 – WHAT YOU GOTTA KNOW ABOUT THE FUTURE OF ISO 9001?

Want to make money?  Want to know the future of quality?  Want to know how you can position your career?  Well listen up:

ISO 9001 is moving to become a risk management standard.

Our spies in quality land reported the following.  ISO 9001 as all management system standards will now adopt the structure defined in ISO Guide 83.  The first three sections are the same as in the current standards.  The 9001 revision scheduled for 2015 will reflect this structure.

1. Scope
2. Normative references
3. Terms and definitions
Clauses 4-10 are decidedly different
4. Context of the organization -Scope and expectations for the management system.
5. Leadership – Management commitment, policy, roles, responsibilities, and authorities.
6. Planning – Risks and opportunities, and objectives and plans.
7. Support – Resources, competence, awareness, communication, and documented information.
8. Operation – Operational planning and control.
9. Performance Evaluation – Monitoring, measurement, analysis, evaluation, internal audits, and management review.
10. Improvement – Nonconformities, corrective action, and continual improvement.

So, what does this mean to you?  There are over 1,000,000 companies worldwide registered to ISO 9001.  They will need help and in most cases, lots of help to move to risk management.  This will provide high value added work to legions of previously quality consultants who will now have to evolve to enterprise risk management consultants.
