Who Pays? – Who Gets? – Greg Hutchins

Greg Hutchins pixFrom what I’ve seen and heard this week on the coverage of Supreme Court on Obamacare, the essence of the 2012 elections can be summed up in 4 words:

“Who pays – Who gets”

I’ve spent the better part of 3 days listening to NPR and reading WSJ/NYTimes/LATimes  coverage of Obamacare.  The Supreme Court is hearing well parsed arguments from opposing sides and impassioned pleas from protesters outside.  At the end of the day, one side will prevail.  Is this a harbinger and proxy of the 2012 presidential debates?

The Supreme Court coverage is framed in terms of opposing viewpoints.  Liberals seek equity with expanded healthcare coverage and benefits for the disenfranchised.   Conservatives want compressed government, no taxes, and adherence to social issues.

The social costs don’t seem to be debated.  If Obamacare is ruled constitutional, how much will it cost, who pays, and who gets are questions not debated.  These are critical issues that seem to be forgotten in a terribly weak economy that is $1,000 Billion in debt over the next fiscal year.

This is just the start of the fireworks.
