#142 – ARE YOU A SYSTEMS CONTROLLED AND/OR PEOPLE CONTROLLED ORGANIZATION? – KEITH RIDGEWAY

Keith ImageAre you a (Systems Controlled & People Driven) or a (People Controlled and People Driven) organisation?

Every day we hear of organisations failure to prevent accidents, environmental incidents, non-conformities, product recalls and at worst a child, adult or an animal was killed.

What is so frustrating is that over 99% of all these failure modes can be prevented by simply applying a robust PDCA (plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology.   Plus the organisation controlling it’s 4P (People, Process, Plant & Product) which will, in-turn, drive their 2E (Effectiveness and Efficiency.

Everyone always talks about the PDCA methodology but what actual physical tools are available. We can send people on 6 Sigma or a number of other improvements and develop business courses. But do they really work if you have not applied the critical P of (PDCA).

There is an old saying “ Fail to Plan or Plan to Fail”

Many years ago I developed a planning tool; I now called my (risk based vertical input and horizontal output mapping) tool.

This planning tool has helped organisations to determine what are their input risks & output impacts and identify the controls required to control the input risks and mitigate the output impacts.

I have trained groups and individuals in the use of my planning tool and have mixed results; – some failures and some outstanding success in removing critical risks and saving millions of pounds

The reason why some failed and some were successful was down to what type of controls they applied.

In my opinion, there are two types of controls: Human and System

  1. A human control involves a person or persons carrying out a physical action:
  2. Carry out an inspection
  3. Carry out a check.
  4. Carry out an audit.
  5. A system control involves a set of input & output:
    RFID Sensor tracking tags.
    Fail safe alarms.
    Built-in self-checking micro sensors.

Over the past 3 years with a small team of RFID software and sensor hardware experts we have developed a number of RFID tag’s and critical alarm sensor preventive controls, which cost very little.

I’m sure there are many another RFID experts out their already develop much more advanced software and hardware control systems.

Why not check them out and be a successful (Systems Controlled & People Driven) organisations.

Rather than fail and figure out if you’re a People Controlled and/or People Driven organisation?
